  7. An NNTP fetcher for FreeNet.  In its current state (version 1.00) it is a
  8. news fetcher with features identical to that of KA9Q.
  9.  
  10. Interfacing with NewsBase (but capable of being used with other newsreaders,
  11. it fetches all new articles in Newsbase's active newsgroups.
  12.  
  13. Version 1.00 of FreeNews provides a decent NNTP functionality for FreeNet.
  14. At higher versions, there will be a vastly expanded range of facilities.

  16. Newsgroups can be categorised as follows: Headers-only groups will download
  17. all the new headers and list them to the user to download individual threads;
  18. All-news groups will download all complete articles that are new.
  19.  
  20. It will eventually be possible to specify that you don't want to download any
  21. messages from a certain individual. This could apply to individual messages,
  22. or whole threads can be ignored because of a single contributor.

  24. Similarly, regardless of poster, a thread can be "blocked". No more messages
  25. in that thread will be downloaded. These elements of a "killfile" may be
  26. set to expire in 'n' days, or never.

  28. The opposite of all the above will also be true. A newsgroup may never
  29. normally be searched for new news, but if any articles by a certain poster
  30. appear, these will be downloaded. This applies to threads also.

  32. Finally, it will be possible to request an individual message download by
  33. message id. Thus if you see "in message <abc123@roundel.demon.co.uk> you said"
  34. lines, and you don't have that message, FreeNews will fetch it for you.

  36. Size limits can be specified. Thus, if you don't want to bother downloading
  37. HUGE binaries, but don't mind seeing smaller ones, you could set the dload
  38. limit to 500 lines. Messages larger than the limit will have their headers
  39. dloaded only, so that you can choose to dload or ignore on an individual
  40. message basis.
